Motorcyclist killed on Highway 49 in Auburn

Auburn police say that a motorcyclist was killed last night on Highway 49 when his vehicle hit a pickup truck.

Police responded about 7 p.m. Tuesday to Highway 49 in the American River Canyon about three-quarters of a mile south of Borland Avenue. The injured motorcyclist was flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The Placer County coroner's office identified the motorcyclist as Troy Carl Arter, 45, of Auburn.

The driver of the truck was not injured. Auburn police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle, traveling northbound, crossed over into southbound oncoming traffic.
