Roommate who claimed she found homicide victim at her house faces murder charge

The woman who claimed she came home to find her roommate dead in their Fruitridge-area home Tuesday is now accused of killing her, according to authorities.

Linda Gabaldon mugshot.jpgLinda Gabaldon, 45, told Sacramento County sheriff's deputies she came home shortly before 4 p.m. to find her roommate fatally shot in the Mascot Avenue home they shared.

Detectives questioned Gabaldon and shortly thereafter arrested her on suspicion of violating the terms of her parole. Today, they added the murder charge in connection with the death of Rebecca Brau, 53.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos said detectives found evidence that was "inconsistent" with Gabaldon's initial account about finding the body.

Detectives believe Gabaldon and Brau were in a romantic relationship, but Ramos said the victim's family insists they were not involved.

Gabaldon is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
