Update: Stockton residents shaken after pit bull kills woman

A woman was killed by a pit bull last night in Stockton.

San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies arrived at a home in the 400 block of Lillian Avenue for a report of a dog attack about 8:20 p.m. Deputies arrived to find the woman who was attacked by the dog. Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The pit bull was found in the backyard of the home where the attack occurred. Animal Control officers removed the dog from the yard, taking it to the county shelter where it will be held pending the conclusion of the investigation into the woman's death.

The woman's name has not been released.

Fox40 reported Stockton residents were shaken after the pit bull attack.

The Stockton Record, quoting authorities and residents, said the woman was killed Thursday night when she was attacked by a pit bull that has terrorized an east Stockton neighborhood for months.

San Joaquin Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Rees described the dog as a "big, nasty pit bull," according to the Record.
