Two California prison inmates have been convicted of assaulting a fellow inmate in 2011.
Alexander Rey Dixon and Francisco Javier Nunez were each convicted by a jury of assault on an inmate with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by an inmate, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release.
On May 1, 2011, Dixon and Nunez assaulted Lance Melendez while incarcerated at California State Prison, Sacramento, in Folsom. Authorities said Melendez suffered numerous stab wounds to his back and head.
Dixon and Nunez face a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison as a result of the convictions, according to the news release. They are to be sentenced May 13 by Sacramento Superior Court Judge James Long.
