Vehicle fire spreads to two south Sacramento County homes

Two south Sacramento County homes were damaged this afternoon in what started as a vehicle fire between the two residences.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were dispatched to the 8300 block of Turnbury Drive, east of Power Inn Road, about 3:38 p.m. regarding a report of a house fire with visible flames. As firefighters were en route, additional callers reported that the fire appeared to be spreading to another home, resulting in a second alarm requesting additional manpower, according to a fire district news release.

Officials said firefighting was made more difficult by gusting winds and a gas meter that was burning with unlimited amount of fuel.

The fire extended into the attics of the two homes. Damage to the residences was estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
