Sacramento police were called to the 2000 block of University Avenue at about 4 p.m. Sunday on a report of a man was on the caller's roof acting crazy and possibly under the influence of drugs.
When officers arrived, the man was down from the roof but he refused to cooperate with police. The officers requested cover from colleagues and tried to subdue the man, using a Taser and police baton.
The man ran into the street where he attempted to carjack several vehicles as well as a patrol car, according to police. A police activity log said that the man tried to get at the service weapons of two officers during a fight to bring him under control.
When an officer with a police dog arrived, the dog was used to help bring him under control. Victor Wayne Chaney, 23, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a police officer, burglary, resisting arrest and violation of probation.
He was treated at the hospital before being booked into jail. Three officers received minor injuries.
