Woman found dead with gunshot wounds in south Sacramento

Sacramento County sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was found shot this afternoon in her south Sacramento home.

Shortly before 4 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in the 5900 block of Mascot Avenue regarding a shooting victim. A woman had called saying that she had returned home to find her roommate shot to death inside the residence, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

Deputies found a woman in her 50s with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. She was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Sheriff's officials said the woman was in a bedroom of the home. Investigators have not developed any information regarding suspects. The individual who found the woman was detained for questioning but is not considered a suspect at this time, officials said.
