QUESTION: What happened to the man that hit a pedestrian, not in the crosswalk, on Northgate a few years ago and killed the young man?
Submitted by: Mind Wondering, Sacramento
ANSWER: Vincent Alfred Velasquez, who struck and killed a teenager on Northgate Boulevard in February 2011, entered no contest pleas to driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
But according to a story in The Bee, none of the charges specifically related to the death of James Shiloh Jr., 18, a pedestrian who had darted into nighttime traffic on Northgate Boulevard. Police said Shiloh was walking outside the crosswalk. As a result, Velasquez was not prosecuted on more serious charges such as gross vehicular manslaughter.
Velasquez, who had two prior DUI convictions, also admitted to driving drunk with three minor children in his vehicle.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Velasquez was sentenced to 515 days in county jail.
