Colfax man accepts plea in killing of girlfriend, unborn child

A Colfax man could face life behind bars after accepting a plea agreement Monday for the 2011 killing of his girlfriend and unborn child.

Sara Lynn Burr, 30, of Grass Valley was shot and killed following a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, Lee Martin Konnerth, 37. After an argument at Konnerth's father's Colfax residence, Burr - armed with a kitchen knife -- tried to leave the home.

Using a rifle retrieved from a closet near the front door, Konnerth shot Burr in the back, killing her and the the 5-month-old fetus.

The relationship was described as volatile before the killing, officials said. The child would have been Burr's third.

The plea agreement was taken by Placer County Superior Court Judge Colleen Nichols.

Under the plea agreement, Konnerth is facing 19 years, and eight months to life. Formal sentencing is scheduled at 1 p.m. July 17 in Dept. 4.
