Double homicide on Citrus Heights street last night

Two people were found shot to death in a car in Citrus Heights last night.

Officers were called to a report of shots fired in the 6000 block of Birdcage Street about 11:30 p.m. Once there, they found a man and a woman dead inside in a car along the shoulder of Birdcage Street.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Police said a light-colored vehicle was seen speeding away northbound from the scene on Birdcage Street toward Greenback Lane around the time of the shooting. Witnesses also reported seeing a white pickup truck driving away southbound on Birdcage Street.

"This is an active investigation by our Investigative Services Division," police Sgt. David Moranz said this morning. "We are encouraging anyone who may have information about this double homicide to please call the Citrus Heights Police Department. We have limited information on this one."
