DUI patrols to target impaired drivers near Folsom Lake

Law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers near the Granite Bay access to Folsom Lake this weekend.

Placer County's DUI task force will deploy saturation patrols targeting people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the Beal's Point and Granite Bay areas. The patrols will be conducted from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The activity, part of the Avoid the 7 campaign, will involve officers from seven local law enforcement agencies: the California Highway Patrol; State Parks; Placer County Sheriff's Department; and the Auburn, Rocklin, Roseville and Lincoln police departments.

Officials urge drivers not to take the chance of being arrested for a drunken driving. Not only do motorists driving under the influence risk killing or injuring themselves or others, they also risk the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest. Violators often face jail time, the loss of their driver's license, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, time away from work and other expenses.
