Man arrested for Auburn thefts and struggle with police

After a struggle, Auburn police arrested a man suspected of theft at two convenience stores last night.

Officers were first dispatched to a 11:45 p.m. Monday merchandise theft report at the 7-11 store on Sacramento street. Later, an officer noticed a man walking hear Highway 49 and Fulweiler Avenue who matched the description of the 7-11 store shoplift.

The officer turned his vehicle around in time to see the man enter a Shell station convenience market. The man entered and allegedly tried to make off with a 12-pack of beer.

The store clerk attempted to stop the theft but was unsuccessful. The man then became combative with two Auburn officers but eventually was arrested.

Dereck Norris, 32, was booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of robbery, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer. He was first treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
