A Yuba City woman died and two other people were injured this morning in a collision on Highway 20, northeast of Marysville.
Tania H. Fox, 47, was driving a 1997 Dodge Neon westbound on Highway 20, approaching Plantz Road about 7:50 a.m., when for some reason the vehicle left the roadway, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. Fox apparently overcorrected, steering her vehicle into oncoming eastbound traffic, where it was struck broadside on the passenger side by a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria driving by Robert L. Lugo, 47, also of Yuba City.
Lugo applied his brakes, but was unable to avoid hitting the Neon, which continued to travel down an embankment on the south side of Highway 20, where it came to rest facing east, according to the CHP.
The Crown Victoria came to rest in the eastbound lane of Highway 20, facing south.
Despite life-saving efforts, Fox died at the scene, the CHP reported. Lugo and his passenger, a 14-year-old girl whose name was not released, were taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Lugo suffered moderate injuries, and his passenger sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP.
CHP officials said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have been factors in the collision, and all parties were wearing seat belts.
The collision remains under investigation.
