Rancho Cordova house fire kills two people, 17 pets

sacmetrofire 2.jpgA deadly house fire in Rancho Cordova early Sunday claimed the lives to two people and 17 pets, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department said.

Fire Capt. Chris Quinn said firefighters first received a cell phone call at 4:06 a.m. today reporting a fire at the single-story house in the 10500 block of Georgetown Drive in Rancho Cordova.

When firefighters arrived, he said, flames were visible. They knocked the fire down within 15 minutes.

He said responders had been told that people were trapped inside, and firefighters located two bodies inside the house. Both people had died on the scene, he said. The coroner's office was notified and would be investigating.

No other information about the victims was available.

Quinn said the pets killed were four dogs, three cats and 10 birds.

Fire investigators will be at the house today trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire, Quinn said.
