Coroner ID's 27-year-old homicide victim in south Sacramento

By Al Pierleoni

The 27-year-old man who was shot to death early Saturday at the 4800 block of Baker Avenue has been identified as Atelea Matini Kaihea, a Pacific Islander, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jason Ramos.

Another man, 22, was found at the scene near Stockton Boulevard. He had been shot once in the arm and was taken to a hospital. He has been identified as the victim's cousin, said Ramos.

"We have virtually no information about a suspect," Ramos said. "There was a vehicle seen speeding away, but we do not know if that was a suspect's vehicle."

Kaihea's cousin has so far been unable to supply investigators with the details of what happened, Ramos said.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. When deputies responded to a call that gunshots had been fired in the Baker Avenue area, they found Kaihea lying in front of a house with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
