The suspect is described as Latino, 20 to 30 years old, and may have a scar on the side of his forehead.
At 11:15 p.m. April 20, the 10-year-old was standing with friends in front of a residence in the 6300 block of Whitecliff Way. A black vehicle with several occupants drove up to the boy, and one of the occupants said something to the juveniles standing outside the residence, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
The suspect, a passenger in the vehicle, then produced a handgun and began firing, striking the boy multiple times.
The boy was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, sheriff's officials said.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
