One person was killed and two people, including a child, were transported to the hospital after a shooting today at 11:31 a.m. at a crowded Arco gas station in the 6600 block of Mack Road.
Sacramento Police spokesman Doug Morse said two vehicles were involved in the incident, one a white Volkswagen Jetta. The incident took place near one of the inner islands of gas pumps at the Arco ampm station and convenience store.
"It appears that the occupants of both vehicles exchanged words just prior to the shooting," said Morse. He said multiple shots were fired at the Jetta soon after the altercation.
Morse said the person killed was a black, adult male who died soon after police arrived. The deceased man appeared to be the passenger in the Jetta, given the position of his body next to the front passenger door.
Morse said the other adult occupant of the car was struck by gunfire, but the child - who was in a car seat - was not hit. Both were taken to an area hospital. Morse said he believes the adult's injury was not-life threatening. He did not give either the age or the gender of either occupant taken to the hospital.
Morse did not say what make or model of vehicle was being driven by the suspect, or whether there was more than one shooter.
He said the shooting was not related to an earlier homicide nearby, at the 7700 block of 24th Street in Meadowview Park at 7:45 a.m., where police found a woman dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
