QUESTION: About five or six years ago, Billy Ray Arnett was accused of child abuse. What was the outcome?
Submitted by: Sarah, Sacramento
ANSWER: Billy Ray Arnett was arrested in September 1994, accused of willful cruelty to a child, after bruises and burns were found on his girlfriend's 4-year-old son.
According to a story in The Bee, a sheriff's spokesman said a concerned neighbor called to report what sounded like a child being beaten in a home on Greenholme Drive in the Foothill Farms area where Arnett lived with his girlfriend and her two children.
Deputies found the boy with severe bruises on his face, burns -- as if from a cigar -- on his abdomen and upper legs, and a distinct imprint of a hand on his back.
The boy was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in serious condition. The woman's other child was placed in protective custody.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Arnett pleaded no contest to child abuse and was sentenced in June 1995 to nine years in state prison.
