A grass fire that burned on the edge of the American River near Carlson Drive in Sacramento's River Park neighborhood was near containment this evening, 90 minutes after the blaze first was reported.
"We are continuing to get all the interior parts of the fire," Sacramento Fire Department Assistant Chief Niko King said.
The fire, near Paradise Beach, was reported by a 911 caller at around 6 p.m. It has not threatened any structures, according to officials.
The fire's cause is unknown. An investigator was not called out, King said, because the fire wasn't considered suspicious and there was "no real dollar loss."
Thirty-five firefighters from Sacramento City and Sacramento Metropolitan fire districts battled the blaze. A Sacramento Metro helicopter also helped contain the fire.
