Man arrested in connection with fatal North Natomas shooting

A 30-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month in the parking lot of a North Natomas apartment complex, Sacramento police report.

Dominique Nelson was arrested near West Elkhorn Boulevard and East Commerce Way in North Natomas during a traffic stop, according to a police department news release. He was booked at 2:35 p.m. into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

At 2:18 a.m. June 12, officers responded to the 500 block of Bankside Way regarding a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Vincent Vigil, 26, shot and on the ground in the parking lot, police said. Vigil died at the scene.

According to police, over the course of the investigation it was discovered that Nelson, just before the shooting, observed Vigil burglarizing his vehicle. Nelson, suspecting Vigil of breaking into his car, followed and confronted him. Vigil was then shot multiple times in the upper body, police said.

The Police Department urges anyone with information about the shooting to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
