Man sentenced to eight years on hit-and-run death

Steven Robert Hernandez Jr. was sentenced to eight years in custody today for a March 22, 2012, hit-and-run that killed one man and seriously injured another.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Delbert W. Oros imposed the sentence as a result of a plea bargain worked out between Sacramento prosecutors and the attorney for the 39-year-old defendant.

Hernandez admitted that he ran over Paul Pellandini, 57, in the 5400 block of Winding Way, in an accident he said was caused when he reached to pick up a cell phone he had dropped. He said he fled in a panic.

Hernandez admitted to two counts of felony hit and run and a single count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
