The Davis Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the April slaying of a well-known Davis couple.
Police are not disclosing the name of the suspect and said he was taken into custody without incident at the police station. He is the only suspect in this case.
After executing multiple search warrants, police arrested the youth on suspicion of killing Oliver Northup, 87, and his wife, Claudia Maupin, 76, said Darren Pytel, assistant police chief of the Davis Police Department.
The suspect will be taken to the Yolo County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he will be held without bail, Pytel said.
Northup, a longtime lawyer, and Maupin were discovered in their own south Davis home with multiple stab wounds when police conducted a welfare check April 15. There were signs of forced entry, but police said that it did not appear to be a burglary.
Police discovered the bodies April 14 after Northup failed to show for a Sunday afternoon performance with his band, the Putah Creek Crawdads.
Northup had a 63-year career as a lawyer, and he gave seminars at the Public Defender's Office. He was still working out of his home when he died.
