A suspected burglar who never made it out of a burgled house, bags of mail found on a bike trail and a crash victim who jumped on light rail and out of an ambulance. Those are three of the recent calls for Sacramento police officers detailed in a police activity log:
• At about 8:15 p.m. Sunday a resident came home to find a stranger asleep on his couch. He was still asleep, with the resident's gun next to him, when officers arrived.
He was found to have possessions that belonged to the resident in his pockets and a bag of property from another burglary. John Hernandez, 32, (pictured at left) was arrested on suspicion of burglary and felon in possession of a handgun.
• Along a bike trail in Natomas, a pedestrian found two bags of mail Sunday morning. A postal inspector was advised.
• A man crashed into a utility pole near 36th Street and 16th Avenue about 7 p.m. Friday, causing his car to overturn. He fled on foot, hopping onto light rail.
Once at the Meadowview station, he hailed police officers who got him an ambulance because he had obvious injuries from the crash. Just before he got to the hospital, the man jumped out and fled.
Later, he showed up at the hospital for treatment. Charges are pending the outcome of the crash investigation.
