A 27-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting himself and his girlfriend by accident this morning, according to Sacramento police.
The man, identified by police as Deandre Smith, was treated and then booked into jail on suspicion of multiple charges. His girlfriend also was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Sacramento police report.
Smith allegedly fired the gun by accident about 1:30 a.m. today while he and his girlfriend were in an alley near Freeport Boulevard and Fruitridge Road, the police report states. Smith shot himself in the hand and his girlfriend in the lower body, police allege.
The two arrived at a local hospital for treatment, at which point staff members called police.
After Smith was released, he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of several weapons-related charges, including discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner; carrying a loaded firearm; and inflicting great bodily injury during the commission or attempted commission of a felony, according to jail booking records. All seven charges he faces are felonies. He also is accused of violating the terms of his probation, jail booking records show.
