A woman was found dead this afternoon in a pickup truck that crashed on a winding rural road in southern El Dorado County.
A passerby reported the crash after coming upon the vehicle on Sand Ridge Road, about 4 miles east of Highway 49, shortly before 3:30 p.m. Officer Quinn Cuthbertson of the California Highway Patrol said there were no witnesses, and it is not known whether the victim, an elderly woman, died of injuries suffered in the crash or natural causes.
The woman was the only person in the maroon Dodge Ram pickup. Cuthbertson said the road is very windy and the driver was on a curve when the pickup struck an embankment. The truck sustained significant front-end damage.
Cuthbertson said efforts were made to revive the woman but were unsuccessful. Her name has not be released pending notification of family.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
