QUESTION: What happened to the three arrested in the 2012 Old Sacramento New Year's Eve shooting of Daniel Ferrier?
Submitted by: 3il33n, Placerville
ANSWER: Three people are in Sacramento County Jail on various charges related to the shooting deaths of Daniel Ferrier, 36, and Gabriel Cordova, 35, at the Sports Corner Cafe on New Year's Eve.
The incident reportedly was triggered when Cordova accidentally spilled beer on 36-year-old Amber Olivia Scholz's sweat shirt.
According to a story in The Bee, a video camera in the bar captured her first confronting Cordova, then walking over and talking with her husband, Charles Wesley Fowler-Scholz, 34, and pointing out Cordova. The video reportedly depicted Fowler-Scholz walking up to Cordova and smashing him over the head with a beer bottle.
When Ferrier, a Sports Corner Cafe security employee, moved to break up the fight, Carlito Montoya, 22, a friend of Fowler-Scholz, allegedly stepped up to Ferrier and shot him three times in the face. Montoya then allegedly reached around Fowler-Scholz and fatally shot Cordova.
Cordova's wife suffered a bullet wound to the foot.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Amber Scholz is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and her case was referred to probation for a pre-plea report. She has a court date Friday for judgment and sentencing.
Fowler-Scholz is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and Montoya, with assault with a deadly weapon or firearm, two counts of murder and count of attempted murder. Both are scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 26.
