Three occupants of a stolen vehicle, including two young children, were taken to an area hospital after a brief car case led to the arrest of the car's 23-year-old driver for investigation of vehicle theft, Sacramento police said today.
The motorist, identified as Matthew McGee, fled in the car from the area of Bell Avenue and Raley Boulevard after officers identified the vehicle as stolen.
During the brief chase, which occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday, the car struck a pole and traffic signal equipment before McGee jumped from the driver's seat and fled on foot.
After he was captured, police discovered the children, ages 6 and 2, in the back seat.
Both children were taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said. Their mother was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In addition to the vehicle theft charge, McGee was booked for investigation of felony child endangerment, felony hit and run and resisting arrest.
