Investigation continues into Placer County prisoner death

An investigation continues into the death a Placer County Jail inmate earlier this month.

Anthony D. Skeaton, 24, of Auburn, in jail on charges of being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, died of an unknown cause.

Skeaton began having a "medical problem" on July 10 at bedtime around 11:30 p.m. while in his bunk in the dormitory-style housing at the main jail, according to a press release. Two officers responded and called for assistance.

Skeaton was transported to Auburn Faith Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was performed but no cause of death was determined. Toxicology results are pending.

There was nothing to indicate that Skeaton committed suicide. No indication of a fight was found by authorities.

He had been remanded to custody from court on July 9.
