A 21-year-old man was found shot in the driveway of a South Sacramento home early Sunday, and police are exploring whether there is a gang link.
The victim has been identified as Shalvin Singh of Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office. Singh was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 a.m. He had gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Police responded to a call at 1:33 a.m. on Sunday that a person had been shot in the 7800 block of Cedar Springs Way. Officers found a man lying in the driveway, and had him transported to a local hospital.
A preliminary investigation showed that an unknown male in dark clothing had approached Singh, who was with a group of people, and fired at the crowd. Witnesses told police Singh and his girlfriend had gone to the house to meet a friend. It was not known if any others were injured.
Police said investigators could not rule out the possibility of the shooting being a drug and/or a gang related crime, and no arrests had been made by Sunday evening.
