An El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy shot a man in the hand Wednesday after he allegedly brandished a handgun, sending him to the hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.
Joshua Whitecotton, 21, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly threatened people shortly before midnight with a handgun near the El Dorado Hills Library on Silva Valley Road, according to a sheriff's office news release. Deputies suspect Whitecotton was trying to force people to give him a ride to a local grocery store.
Sheriff's officials said the deputy arrived at the scene and attempted to talk to Whitecotton, who allegedly brandished his shotgun. The deputy then fired one shot, which hit Whitecotton in the hand. He was taken to the hospital and will be booked into the El Dorado County jail after he is treated.
