A man was taken to an area hospital early today after inhaling smoke during a fast-moving apartment fire.
The man, who has not been named, was removed from a burning apartment by his neighbors, then treated by paramedics, before he was taken to UC Davis Medical Center.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department did not have an update on the man's condition as of 3 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Firefighters were sent to the fire at the 2700 block La Verta Court in Rancho Cordova at about 1:45 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the blaze was quickly spreading to the second floor of the apartment, and started evacuating residents of the apartment.
The fire charred 8 apartments and displaced 12 people before firefighters put the blaze out, according to a press release from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes of their arrival.
