Police investigate death of man found in North Natomas pond

Sacramento police detectives were called to investigate the death of a man who was found by family members this evening in a pond in the North Natomas area.

Police spokesman Officer Doug Morse said police were contacted at 5:42 p.m. by Sacramento Fire Department personnel who responded to the medical rescue call. Morse said the 20-year-old man had reportedly gone fishing in the area with a friend in a pond near Terracina Drive, east of Truxel Road.

Family members went to look for him and discovered his body in the pond. Morse said the man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

He said homicide detectives were called in as a precaution because the circumstances surrounding the man's death were not known.

The coroner will determine the cause of death.
