Rancho Cordova garage fire complicated by downed power line

A garage fire in Rancho Cordova this afternoon resulted in a downed power line that fell across several homes and properties.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded to the 10400 Dolecetto Drive about 5 p.m. and found a growing garage fire. While firefighters tackled the blaze, other crews searched the area to make sure people were kept away from the power line, according to a fire district news release.

Utility company crews were called in to secure and repair the downed line.

The cause of the fire, which was largely confined to the garage, has not been determined, but officials said preliminary reports indicate it started near solar panels on the roof of the garage.
