A 6-year-old Latrobe boy drowned Sunday at Jenkinson Lake in El Dorado County's Sly Park area.
El Dorado County sheriff's deputies, along with sheriff's marine units, U.S. Forest rangers, a Forest Service canine unit, fire department personnel and a California Highway Patrol helicopter responded about 4 p.m. to a report that the boy was missing along the shore of the lake in the Bumpy Meadows picnic area, a Sheriff's Department news release states. El Dorado Irrigation District personnel and visitors to the lake already were searching for the child.
The youngster, identified as Trip Demetri, was located about 5:20 p.m. underwater about 10 feet from the shore. He died at the scene.
Sheriff's officials said the boy was visiting the lake with his father and sister and had last been seen playing in the water with his sister.
