TRUCKEE -- A 24-year-old Truckee woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after her bicycle struck and seriously injured a pedestrian.
The bicyclist, Petra Bakker-Borhani, was uninjured and remained at the scene after the accident occurred, according to the release. She was booked into the Nevada County jail after authorities said she was operating the bicycle while under the influence of alcohol, the release said.
The accident occurred at 9:25 p.m. Thursday on Donner Pass Road along Donner Lake in Truckee, just as the community's annual fireworks show was about to begin.
"Officers arrived and found bystanders performing CPR on the adult male pedestrian," Truckee Police Chief Adam McGill said in a news release Friday.
McGill said emergency responders took over lifesaving efforts and transported the man to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee. He was later flown to a Reno hospital.
"He remains in a hospital in critical condition with major head trauma," said McGill, adding that the pedestrian's name is not being released at this time. Truckee police would not answer questions about the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or events prior to it is asked to call Police Sgt. Robert Womack at (530) 550-2335 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
