Sacramento police have arrested two people in connection with a Sunday morning shooting that left one man dead at a south Sacramento apartment complex.
Officers were dispatched about 1 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Mack Road, where they found a man at the base of a stairwell with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The man, later identified by the coroner's office as Domenic David Lafazia, 49, of Sacramento, was not breathing. Officers provided CPR until Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived, but Lafazia died at the scene.
Homicide investigators identified suspects in the shooting as Reshay Tiara Mott, 19, and her 20-year-old boyfriend, Elliton Jay-Twan Varnado.
Mott allegedly had set up a meeting with the Lafazia with the plan that her boyfriend would rob Lafazia of his valuables, according to a Police Department news release. Lafazia reportedly met with Mott, then was confronted by Varnado, and a fight ensued, during which Lafazia was shot.
Mott and Varnado were arrested at the Stonegate Apartments about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Police said their photos are being withheld while investigators seek information that might link Mott and Varnado to other robbery cases.
