Sacramento police homicide detectives are investigating how a man who had gone fishing ended up dead in a Natomas pond Tuesday night.
However, investigators are still calling the man's death "suspicious" and are not treating it as a homicide. The man's body showed no signs of obvious trauma, and police are waiting for the Sacramento County Coroner's Office to provide a cause of death, said Sacramento police Officer Doug Morse.
The man, in his 20s, police say, had reportedly gone fishing with a friend and was found by family members who came to visit the man sometime after 5 p.m. at the pond near Truxel and Del Paso roads, Morse said. The relatives called 911, and the man was taken to the hospital, where he died. Police were notified by responding firefighters.
The man's friend was not on scene when the family arrived, but police located him later. He was questioned but not detained, and was "forthcoming with information," Morse said.
The coroner's office has not released the man's identity.
