An Antelope man arrested in August 2009 in connection with a series of sexual assaults on minors in Sacramento and Placer counties has pleaded to sex assault charges in Sacramento Superior Court.
Anthony Eugene Martin, 43, pleaded today to charges including lewd and lascivious acts by force, sex acts involving a child younger than 10 years old and false imprisonment, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release.
In July 2009, Martin sexually assaulted several children and a woman, none of whom were acquainted with him. Authorities said he grabbed the victims from behind.
According to a 2009 story in The Bee, Martin was arrested in connection with sexual assaults at a public pool in Auburn and at Antelope Crossing Middle School, as well as an attack in the area of North Loop Boulevard and Mulrany Way in Antelope.
Authorities said he was seen on surveillance video running from the middle school, and a subsequent search of his residence turned up evidence tying him to the attack at the school.
Investigators discovered that Martin had a history of similar sexual assault in Oregon. He was arrested in Portland.
Martin is to be sentenced Oct. 25 before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Allen Summer. According to the District Attorney's Office, he faces 21 years to life in prison.
