Arrest ends morning crime spree in Rancho Cordova

Adam Shears mugshot.jpgA 41-year-old man is in custody after allegedly going on a crime spree this morning in Rancho Cordova and unincorporated Sacramento County that involved carjacking and felony hit and run.

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies and Rancho Cordova police responded following a report that a pickup truck was stolen from the owner, who was filling it with gas about 8:30 a.m. at Tower Mart at 2150 Marconi Ave., according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

The suspect, later identified as Adam Shears (pictured), went next to a McDonald's restaurant on Folsom Boulevard between Dawes Street and Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova, where he allegedly assaulted a man while attempting to steal another vehicle. He then went to a Firestone Tire store at 10407 Folsom Blvd. and drove a truck out of one of the bays, officials said..

Sheriff's officials said the suspect hit several vehicles before leading officers on a pursuit. He finally bailed out of the truck and ran to the 2900 block of Routier Road, where he was arrested.

Shears was booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of carjacking, purchase or receipt of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft, hit and run, and vandalism. He is being held in lieu of $1,110,000 bail.
