The Sacramento County Coroner's office on Monday identified the young man killed over the weekend at an Orangevale apartment complex as 20-year-old Christian Fafnis-Horton of Sultan, Wash.
Fafnis-Horton died in an early Saturday morning shooting that also left a 20-year-old man injured. No suspects have been identified.
The two victims were sitting on an upstairs landing in an apartment complex at 6244 Hazel Avenue when two gunmen came up and shot them, said Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jason Ramos.
Both men were shot once. The injured friend of Fafnis-Horton and another person at the complex tried to render aid. However, when paramedics responded to the scene, Fafnis-Horton was pronounced dead.
The suspects, described only as wearing dark clothing, fled on foot. Ramos said there was no fight immediately before the shooting.
A woman who answered the phone at the Washington home of Fafnis-Horton's parents identified herself as the victim's grandmother. She said he was in Sacramento visiting, but declined to talk further. Efforts to reach other relatives were not successful.
