A man was arrested by Sacramento police early Friday following a short pursuit that ended in a car crash.

At 1:44 a.m., a police officer pulled over Rafael Alvarado, 22, on suspicion of drunken driving near Folsom Boulevard and Notre Dame Drive. As the officer was about to exit his vehicle, Alvarado sped off in his vehicle, the Sacramento Police Department reported.

Alvarado drove west on Folsom Boulevard before losing control of his vehicle and crashing near 65th Street.

A short foot pursuit followed before officers took Alvarado into custody.

Alvarado was arrested on suspicion of felony evading a police officer-driving in a reckless manner and five misdemeanors, including driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at Sacramento County Main Jail.
