Thousands of communities across the country will rally together for the 30th annual National Night Out on Tuesday.
The evening intends to show that neighborhoods are united against crime. Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their lights and socialize outdoors.
Over 100 block parties, potlucks, ice cream socials, parades and other activities will take place in the Sacramento area from 6 to 10 p.m.
A particularly large event is slated for Freedom Park in North Highlands, with free food, live music and guest speakers about local gang activity, according to Sgt. Jason Ramos. Deputies and a crime prevention specialist will be on-hand as well.
According to police, over 37 million people from over 150,000 communities participated last year nationwide.
