Placer County sheriff receives funds to combat underage drinking

The Placer County Sheriff's Office has received a $100,000 state grant to stem drinking by minors and prevent alcohol sales to intoxicated adults.

The grant from the California Department of Beverage Control will target establishments that sell alcohol to minors or obviously drunken adults. Minors working with police will check whether stores are selling alcohol to people under age 21.

Police departments in Auburn, Lincoln and Rocklin will work with the sheriff's department's in the effort to halt sales to minors.

The grant will also be used to increase awareness among teachers and parents of alcohol-related crimes involving minors.

In addition, two training sessions will be held for businesses that have alcohol licenses. During the sessions, a review of rules and regulations governing alcohol sales will be provided.
