RT exercise to focus on terrorism response capabilities

The Sacramento Regional Transit District will conduct a field exercise Wednesday morning to evaluate the emergency response capabilities of RT and regional emergency service providers.

The scenario involves a mock threat of terrorism, according to an RT news release.

The exercise will take place at Regional Transit's south bus parking lot, across from the agency's administrative offices at 1400 29th St. Part of the exercise also will be conducted in the train storage area at the Watt/Interstate 80 rail station.

Officials said regular RT service will not be affected.

Participating with Regional Transit will be representatives of the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The exercise is funded through a Transit Security Grant awarded to RT Police Services by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
