Suspect faces extra charge after allegedly chewing on Sacramento police car

A 45-year-old woman who was detained in the back of a police patrol car Sunday afternoon started chewing on it - biting off another charge for herself, according to police.

Tammy Vasquez initially found herself in trouble for alleged petty theft and parole violations, according to a Sacramento police report. But when officers put her in the back of a patrol car shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, she began eating the foam padding on the divider, police said.

That alleged act was not just unsanitary, but illegal, according to police, and it earned the 45-year-old woman a vandalism charge.

Vasquez also was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a narcotic, police said.

According to Sacramento Superior Court records available online, Vasquez has a lengthy criminal history, dating back to 1990. She most recently went to prison for a felony arson conviction in 2010.
