Two local teenagers die in Sutter County crash

By Kurt Chirbas
Two teenagers died in a car crash on Riego Road in Sutter County at around 10 a.m. Sunday morning. The accident also sent a 23-year-old passenger to the hospital with major injuries.

The three males were traveling eastbound on Riego Road, east of Highway 99, in a 2008 Mazda, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle drifted into the westbound lane of Riego Road, directly into the path of a recreational vehicle, according to reports. The RV carried Roseville residents Paul Kent, 74, and Dolores Kent, 87.

The Mazda ended up in a ditch along Riego Road, said officers.

A 17-year-old and 19-year-old from Loomis and Elk Grove were pronounced dead at the scene. The third passenger, from Rocklin, was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries. The passengers in the RV suffered no injuries.
