Two Sacramento-area men were found shot to death near Highway 101 in Monterey County late Sunday night, according to authorities.
The men were identified today as Navneal Singh, 22, and Demetrius Isaiah Safford, 23, both of the Sacramento area, a news release from the Monterey County Sheriff's Office states.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, a passing motorist found the bodies on the ground near the back of a car parked on Dunbarton Road in the Aromas area, an earlier press release stated. The motorist called deputies, who discovered that the two men had been shot to death.
The relationship between the two men and when they are believed to have died remains unclear. Sheriff's Commander Mike Burns said today no further information could be released because of the ongoing investigation.
Public records show that Safford's last known address was in Natomas. Efforts to reach his relatives were not successful.
Superior Court records available online indicate he was scheduled to appear in court today for a hearing on a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge.
No information could immediately be found about Singh. A person with the same name was charged in Sacramento County in 2010 with a variety of felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and kidnapping to commit robbery or a sexual offense, online Superior Court records show. All charges were dismissed shortly after trial began in 2011; it was not immediately clear today why.
Anyone with information about the fatal shootings is asked to call investigators Al Martinez or Sgt. Terry Kaiser at (831) 755-3772 or the tip line at (888) 833-4847.
