Overnight the American Fire raged on, burning 7,367 acres and bringing containment down to 31 percent.
As of today, an emergency closure order is in place for National Forest System lands within and adjacent to the fire. A map of the closed area is available at Tahoe National Forest offices and online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/tahoe.
The fire is located about 10 miles northeast of Foresthill, and last night the fire moved up Secret Canyon to Ford Point. Officials said the fire is likely to continue growing due to heavy fuels and steep slopes.
On Thursday, one mining structure in a historic area was destroyed. There were also two reported injuries, which Tahoe National Forest spokesperson Jerry Westfall called minor "bee sting-type" of injuries that can be healed with a bandage.
Fire officials are establishing an base in the Greek Store area off of Mosquito Ridge Road to attempt to access the southeast end of the fire.
The total personnel count has remained at 1,226.
