A pedestrian who died this morning in Woodland after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene has been identified by the Yolo County Coroner's Office as Douglas William Gatie, 53, of Woodland.
A 19-year-old man was located and arrested about an hour later, according to Woodland police.
At about 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to an injury collision on Main Street near Walnut Street. Medics pronounced Gatie dead at the scene. Mark Persons, a spokesman for the Coroner's Office, said Gatie died of multiple blunt force injuries.
Officers found a license plate from the suspect's car nearby, and about an hour later, came across the vehicle with 19-year-old Woodland resident Ivan Martinez sitting in the driver's seat just a few blocks away.
Officers ordered Martinez out of the car but had to forcibly remove and detain him after Martinez refused, according to police.
Martinez was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, fleeing the scene of a collision after committing vehicular manslaughter, driving while under the influence and driving without a license. He's being held on $250,000 bail.
