QUESTION: Whatever happened to the 19- to 20-year-old man shot in the north area in April 1995? His name was Ernie Gabaldon.
Submitted by: Harold, Sacramento
ANSWER: Ernie Gabaldon, 19, was shot while leaving a party at a duplex on the corner of El Camino and Western avenues in April 1995 and died later at UC Davis Medical Center.
According to a story in The Bee, Michael Santos Walters, also 19 and a self proclaimed Southern California gang member, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder of two other people. A 14-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man were also wounded.
Police said the rounds were fired from a shotgun, from the front of Walter's duplex next door. Officers found Walters hiding in the back yard and later found a loaded shotgun inside his duplex.
According to Sacramento County Superior Court online records, Santos was convicted of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison and is in San Quentin State Prison..
